Unwilling changes or turning points are often employed by authors to aid the characters in acquiring better attitudes towards life. In the film Stranger than Fiction written by Zach Helm, turning points are used this way through Harold Crick. Harold’s realization of being powerless to avoid his fateful death provides a turning point that induces Harold’s transformation into a more emotional and passionate individual who lives every minute of his life to the fullest. The turning point is when Harold realizes he cannot avoid his fateful death after his apartment is being unexpectedly demolished by a crane when he is staying home to control his destiny. This very event causes Harold to live his remaining life by playing the guitar, by†¦show more content†¦Harold takes this advice to heart. Realizing his imminent death forces Harold to live life. Not until this point Harold starts his journey of transforming into a new person who enjoys life with a good attitude. First, Harold starts to live life with passion and a dream when he starts off his transformation with purchasing a guitar to fulfill his life dream of playing one. When he is at the music store to buy guitars, instead of picking the attractive and high-quality guitars, he chooses a mal-treated Fender electric guitar. Harold wants a guitar that said something about him, and this guitar certainly does what he wants. This guitar is similar in one way than Harold that it is once mistreated. The guitar is abused by its previous owner, just as Harold once has been overly harsh on himself. Harold’s buying the guitar shows that he desires to start treating the damaged guitar well. But more importantly, he wants to start enjoying his life by realizing his desire of playing the guitar rather than by compulsively measuring and rationalizing every single detail of his life. By playing the guitar, he resuscitates his life with passion, and the desire to pursue dreams. Harold starts pursuing Ana using irrational methods after adding passion and desire to pursue ambitions in his life. One day, he gets up in the middle of the night and goes all the way to Ana’s bakery to give Ana flours when she heads home from her bakery.
